While it’s definitely not required to stay “on-trend,” trying to stay on top of the ever-changing fashion world can get exhausting for those who are interested in keeping up with all-things trending. In a world of TikTok and short attention spans, it seems as though there’s a new popular aesthetic or viral item every week.

As a mom, you might be interested in trying out some recent trends in a more approachable way. I’ve combed through 2023 trend reports, taken into account what I’ve been seeing everywhere on celebrities and social media, and done extensive Pinterest scrolling to compile this list of 2023 fashion trends that are actually wearable. Don’t get us wrong: our classic capsule wardrobe pieces aren’t going anywhere, but sometimes it’s fun to switch things up. And whether you choose to add some of these to your wardrobe or skip them all together, we totally understand.

From leather everything to refined footwear to detailed denim and more, these seven trends are going to be major in 2023. Check them out below, plus a few of our favorite pieces and tips for incorporating them into your wardrobe.

Sheer Accent Pieces

Whether it’s classic mesh elements or statement lace tops, sheer accent pieces are having a serious moment right now. This trend might seem intimidating or not wearable for everyday, but there are tons of different (and more subtle) ways to incorporate sheer into your wardrobe. You can opt for a piece that is only partially sheer—like with sleeves or cutouts—or layer a sheer top under something. My absolute favorite way I’ve seen this trend worn is a delicate and lace-y long-sleeve top under a chunky knit sweater vest.

Leather Everything

Obviously, there are certain leather pieces that never go out of style, like a leather jacket or a classic pair of leather boots. But in 2023, we’re seeing leather from head to toe. Pair leather pants or a skirt with a leather jacket—trust us, you can never have too much. Longer leather pieces are also everywhere right now. For example, instead of a cropped biker jacket, opt for a leather trench. And instead of a leather mini skirt, try out a midi.

In case you haven’t heard, ballet flats have made a major comeback over the last couple of years—and it looks like they are here to stay. At first, the thought of wearing a pair of ballet flats again brought me right back to middle school and bleeding ankles. But after more investigation and some Pinterest-ing, I’ve decided to give them another shot. I especially love a pair with a slightly more square toe. Along with flats, ’60s-inspired kitten heels, slingbacks, and mules are going to be everywhere in 2023.

Bright Colors

Spring and summer 2023 runways were absolutely exploding with color. From varying shades of electric greens and yellows to Barbiecore pink, this is the year to step out of our comfort zones and brighten up our wardrobes. A great way to introduce bright color into your wardrobe is to go for a classic piece that you know you’ll wear—such as a classic sweater or button-down—and instead of buying it in a neutral, grab it in a unique color.

Workwear-Inspired

Workwear pieces have been around forever, but over the last few years, we’ve begun to take trousers and oversized blazers out of the office. Blazers or suit-style vests are a great option for date night, while trousers can be dressed up or down for practically any occasion. This year, mix your workwear pieces with a few playful items for the perfect weekend look.

Metallics

Gone are the days when metallics were reserved for New Years Eve. From pants to shoes to accessories, metallic pieces are showing up more and more in everyday wear. If you’re not quite ready for a full metallic leather pants moment, start with a bag or a pair of shoes.

Detailed Denim

While we will never get rid of our classic denim, this year might be the one to experiment with unique jeans and other denim pieces. On the more subtle side, we have mixed washes, funky silhouettes, and seam detailing. On the more wild side, we have patchwork, patterns, and embellishments. Pair a unique pair of jeans with some of your favorite wardrobe basics for a look that still feels comfortable to wear.
